Portal to celebrate 100th Anniversary

Everyone is invited to the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the founding of the town of Portal. An original folk-life musical drama traces the stories of Bulloch County's first railroad and lumber barons, turpentine workers, moon-shiners, horse-andbuggy doctors and a host of other characters. Scenes range from the poignant return of half-starved Confederate veterans to the hilarious resurrection of an alcoholic who was mistaken for dead.

The production is directed by Georgia Southern University professor Mical Whitaker, with a cast of more than 75 performers. General admission is $3. Advance purchase is recommended. Tickets are available at Portal City Hall; call (912) 865-2566. Limited tickets will be available at the door. Performances will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, and Saturday, March 8, in the auditorium of Portal Elementary School.
