Chief attends summer training conference
CHIEF DWAYNE HERRINGTON As part of his continuing education and training in the administration law enforcement, City of Millen Director of Public Safety Dwayne Herrington recently attended the 2008 Annual Summer Training Conference sponsored by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP). This year's conference was one of the largest ever held with heads of law enforcement agencies from throughout the state participating in the fourday conference. The GACP is responsible for the delivery of training to the chiefs of Georgia's police departments and law enforcement agencies.
The Summer Training Conference was held at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center July 13-July 16. This year's event covered a variety of topics such as: Drive Performance via Servant Chiefship, Ethics and Asset Forfeiture Beyond the Traffic Stop, 2008 Legal Update, ICE Secure Communities Program, Use of Force-Are Continuums Still Necessary?, GBI Crime Lab Update-Improving Justice in Georgia, Department of Natural Resources Disaster Response Plans and JTFGuantanamo.
Chief Herrington was among more than 425 heads of law enforcement agencies attending the training conference. In addition to the chiefs in attendance, a significant number of departmental command staff was also present to learn about training tropics that will benefit their department and community.
Chief Dwayne Orrick of the Cordele Police Department, president of the GACP, challenged the chiefs to "apply the training learned at the conference to enhance your professional development and strengthen the knowledge of your officers."
