(Photo contributed) A gourmet's delight was discovered just 40 minutes away by the Millen Gentlemen's Gourmet Dining Club (MGGDC.) The Oak Island Crab House, owned and operated by the Dale Williams family, is located where U.S. Highway 1 intersects with Interstate 16. Hours of operation are 5 p.m. until 10 p.m., Thursday through Saturday. It is, reportedly, well worth the drive.

Club members found that the dining rooms are functional, open and as bright as a newly minted dime. They stated that the entire staff may well be the friendliest the club has encountered. Their waitress, Alicia, exceeded all expectations with her friendly demeanor and efficiency. There was a "relaxed, come as you are" attitude that was comfortable and refreshing. Club members felt it was like being at home, but with many treats to select from. The restaurant is obviously a favorite place to eat good local food as by 6 p.m., it was filling up with customers.

Club members were greeted, seated and informed of the "hot bar," which consists of grits, Brunswick stew, clam chowder and fatback, all included with the meal; and salad is also included.

Members ordered succulent steaks, prime rib and various plates of fantastic fish. Two members ordered the deluxe seafood platter which costs $28.99 and includes catfish, flounder, crab cakes, shrimp, oysters, scallops and clam strips. All dinners are served with the typical sides. Those who ordered the baked sweet potatoes found them to be exceptional. They stated that it is a rarity when all food items ordered are delicious and memorable.

The members provided no information regarding the quality of desserts although cheesecake, key lime pie, brownie delight and ice cream were readily available. Club members admit to waddling out with to-go boxes in hand, and stated that the food maintained its excellence after warming in the microwave for a couple of minutes.

The MGGDC members unanimously applauded the dining experience and look forward to returning, and they gave their "five bowls out of five" rating.

Members of the club also stated that they hope their reviews are helpful, as they endeavor to convey the passion they have for unique dining and the experience of shared brotherhood.
