Cross Country race to be held this Saturday
Millen Milers and More will hold the 12th Annual Cross Country 4.8 Mile race 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at Magnolia Springs State Park.
Runners from across Georgia will join with local and area runners in competing for awards for overall and master's winners, as well as three deep in five-year age groups. Members of USA Track and Field will also be competing for awards as this race is the USATF Georgia Association Open and Masters championship for cross country. The USATF runners (male and female) with the best agegraded performance will also win $100.
The challenging course is along the trails within the state park and will take the runners from the remains of Fort Lawton deep into the woods, along the lake to the group camp, then back into the woods and finally by the spring to a loop around the pine trees to the finish.
As this race is held near Veterans Day, members of the military will again be honored at a ceremony prior to the presentation of awards around 10:15 a.m. Runners and guests who are active or retired military will be asked to come forward with our local VFW Color Guard for the presentation of the colors by the Jenkins County High School JROTC. Jeff Hubright, a musician and runner from Atlanta, will play "Taps."
Runners, joggers and walkers are invited to join in the 4.8 mile effort and area active and retired military are invited to be present to receive a small token of our community's thanks for what they have done on behalf of our nation.
