Dear Editor:

2008-11-12 / Letters

On Thursday night, Oct. 30, Millen Better Hometown and Millen/Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce sponsored the seventh annual Harvest of Fun on Cotton Avenue. The attendance was great, as usual. It is gratifying to see the community come out in such numbers to enjoy family fun together. The response to our efforts certainly makes the hard work worthwhile.

We want to publicly acknowledge those who made the Harvest of Fun possible. Beth Collins organized the event and recruited participation. Clay Boulineau and the City of Millen helped with set up and clean up.

The following businesses, churches, civic clubs and individuals provided games or made donations to help with expenses: The Millen News, Seth Benson, The Charm Barn, Linder Pharmacy, Millen Woman's Club, Jenkins County Library, Queensborough Bank, Jenkins County Fire Department, The Dairy Queen, Eagle Pharmacy, Jenkins County 4-H, Jenkins County Team Leadership Council, Millen Better Hometown, Jenkins County Commissioners, Oak Hill Church Youth, Planter's EMC, Cindy's Café on Cotton, One Body Fitness Center, Junior Beta Club, Millen Optimist Club, Panda Express, Elegant Sweets, Zion Baptist Youth Group, K & K Antiques and Old Fashioned Soda Shop and Horse Feathers, the Clown (also known as Robert Reeves.)

Individuals who helped were Wanda Dwight, Christy Bandy and Claudette Sasser, who judged the Costume Contest; Randy Hill and Planters EMC, who provided pictures for the children; F.A. Black, who provided bales of straw for decoration; and the many faithful Better Hometown volunteers.

The success of the festival can be credited to the people of our community working together.

Art Johnson, manager, Millen Better Hometown

Paula Herrington,

executive director, Millen/Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce
