Syl-View Happenings
Anita Thompson, volunteer at Syl-View, helped with the Pumpkin Party dressed in her costume, to the delight of the residents. (Photo contributed) We celebrated a "Pumpkin Day" with Bible study of God's miracles in the Bible. We had prayer for Betty Malloy of the activity staff, who is ill. We wish for her a speedy recovery and return to work.
Our celebration continued onto the afternoon with a "Pumpkin Party." The school children had carved pumpkins for us, and we used them as decorations on the nurses' station and on our serving table. The Farmdale Church provided a decorated table cloth for the party. Our oldest volunteer, Anita Thompson, arrived in a clown suit and a colored wig, to the delight of the residents. She made rounds, greeting the residents and there was love and laughter.
Then Gilda Kidd, another volunteer, danced in to the music of Bill Kellicker and Doug Schriner. Most of the residents were singing along with them, to the old country and gospel songs. Dorothe Garrett, Carrie Edwards and Nicki Brannen assisted the staff in serving the pumpkin and sweet potato pie to all of the residents. Susie Stout and Tom Norman didn't miss a word or a beat of the music. Thanks to all who helped make it a fun time.
We had over 100 little ghosts and goblins who visited. The residents loved the little ones in their costumes, and it's great to have the community involved in our activity programs.
The Farmdale Baptist Church served as host for our monthly "Fun Night." We had more than 75 attending and enjoying the music and dancing. The residents enjoyed the wheelchair rides to the music, and we had a number of dancers who joined in the fun. Farmdale had a number of men and women attending and serving nice refreshments for all to enjoy.
We will have "Gifts for Light" at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7. We urge everyone to help us see that every resident receives a visit and a gift. We will have music and refreshments, so please save this date and visit us.
Jerry Hunter led our men's group and a member of the staff assisted, as I was not feeling well that day.
I will be helping with the 36- hour course in Atlanta next week, to train new activity directors in our state.
Please visit us soon at Sylview.
