The Chatter Box

I have long been somewhat disgusted with many of the television shows and their storylines that are now airing. It is just about impossible to find a "family" movie or program worthy of viewing. Even the comedies and cartoons require "parental" supervision.

I have also noticed how even the television commercials are crossing the line. Certain products, that never even used to be talked about publicly, are now being advertised in very explicit ways that would make a door knob blush! I don't dare name any. This column is not X-rated!

I think it is time for television to clean up its act and for those in the business to place "limits" on what is appropriate for broadcasting. This era of "anything goes" has gone way too far!

Last week's question on our website was, "Should President-elect Barack Obama withdraw troops from Iraq when he takes office in January?"

Responses, as of Monday morning, were as follows: Yes, immediately - 3; Yes, but slowly over an extended period of time - 20; and No, we need to finish what we started, 18.

Comments: "Although we were tricked into going into Iraq, and have lost many lives with many young Americans maimed and crippled for life, it would be a mistake to quickly withdraw all troops from Iraq at once, but I will hold President Obama to his promise of withdrawing the troops as soon as possible."
