Run-off to be held Dec. 2
Early and advance voting in the Dec. 2 General Election Run-off will take place Thursday, Nov. 20, through Wednesday, Nov. 26, at the Jenkins County Courthouse. Ballots may be cast from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday- Friday. Voters may cast their ballots either by mail or in person without providing a reason. Early and Advance voting ends Nov. 26 due to the Thanksgiving holidays.
Jenkins County Election Superintendent Wanda Burke explained that only voters who were eligible to vote in the General Election held Nov. 4, will be eligible to vote in the Run-off Election.
Seats up for election in the Run-off include: U.S. Senate - Republican Saxby Chambliss, incumbent, and Democrat Jim Martin; Public Service Commissioner, to succeed Angela Elizabeth Speir - Republican Lauren W. McDonald Jr. and Democrat Jim Powell; and Judge, Court of Appeals of Georgia, to succeed John H. Ruffin - Sara Doyle and Mike Sheffield.
Voters casting ballots in-person during early and advance voting or on Election Day will be required to show one of the following six forms of photo ID: a Georgia driver's license, even if expired; any valid state or federal government issued photo ID, including a free Voter ID; card issued by county registrar or Georgia Department of Driver Services; valid U.S. passport; valid employee photo ID from any branch, department, agency or entity of the U.S. Government, Georgia, or any county, municipality, board, authority or other entity of this state; valid U.S. military photo ID or valid tribal photo ID.
Photo identification is not required when voting by mail. All mail-in ballots must be received no later than 7 p.m. by the county registrar on Election Day, Dec. 2.
All regular polling places in the county will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Election Day.
