Council of Churches helps provide food to needy families during Thanksgiving
The Jenkins County Council of Churches (JCCC) is continuing a 6-year tradition of providing Thanksgiving meals to needy families in the community. In past years, local churches, organizations and individuals have made contributions of food, money and time to make this event successful.
This year, the JCCC is soliciting community support for the Thanksgiving "Meal in a Bag". The meal will consist of baked ham, stuffing mix, green beans, sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce. The ingredients will be packaged and ready for families to prepare in the home.
Volunteers will be needed Tuesday, Nov. 25, to transport food, pack the meals and distribute and deliver bags to families.
To make monetary or food donations (green beans, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix), call Tonya at the Jenkins County Family Enrichment Center, 982-8004. She will also take names of volunteers and community families who might benefit from this year's project.
The JCCC is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to address the growing needs of families in Jenkins County. The organization has a Christ-centered focus, ministering to the spiritual as well as social, economic and physical needs. By sharing ideas, resources and opportunities, the organization hopes to capitalize on the collective power of its member churches to promote self-sufficiency for families in the county.
