JCHS cross country team finishes season

(Photos contributed) The Jenkins County High School cross country team finished its season with a third place win at the Region competition for the boys and a fifth place win for the girls. Ten teams competed in the region meet.

Participants who finished in the top six at the region meet were eligible to compete individually at the state competition. Andrea Pittman represented JCHS at the state meet, placing 64th out of a field of 180 participants.

Coach Bobby James explained that this year's team also included participants in the school's JROTC program, and he expressed his appreciation to Col. Wade and Sgt. Major Thomas and the JROTC team for their willingness to join in the cross country activities.

"We beat some big schools this year - Swainsboro, Burke, Vidalia and Toombs County - as well as teams in our region - Bryan County and Claxton," said Coach James.

Top runners for the boys were Fernando Gomez, Remegio Gomez, Andreas Jeronimo, Brad Amerson, Colton Wilkerson, Cody Lindsey and Tay Taylor

Girls' top competitors were Andrea Pittman, Breezy Joiner, Kelly Chick, Margaret Dickens, Brittany McKinney, Melissa White and Morgan Pickett.
