JCHS recognizes local veterans with ceremony

(Photo contributed) Jenkins County High School (JCHS) hosted a Veteran's Appreciation Ceremony in the new gym Tuesday, Nov. 11, to recognize local veterans and all those that have served/are still serving this nation. The JCHS and Jenkins County Middle School band provided an excellent prelude to the ceremony playing each of the military service songs. Members of the Jenkins County Army JROTC Corps of Cadets provided insight to what Veteran's Day is all about and why we celebrate this very special day once a year. Cadet Lewis Williams and Cadet Keondra Kelly sang the National Anthem, and Cadet Williams read his essay that was selected by the local VFW to compete in their nation wide essay contest. Andres Jeronimo ended the ceremony with the playing of Taps.
