4-H News
By Anna Burgess County Extension Agent

As always, we seem to have hit the ground running as soon as the holidays are over. Which is our "normal." I prefer a normal, hectic, yet scheduled life. During the holidays, I was able to go "home" for nearly two weeks. This was the most amount of time I've spent in Thomasville in over a year. While there, I went with some friends to eat lunch. When we walked in, something hit me a little funny. I looked around and didn't know a sole. The place was packed and I knew no one. I have no idea why this stood out in my head, but it did. Maybe it's because now that Millen is my home, I am used to walking in and hearing a hello, or at least seeing a friendly smile. It used to be like that in Thomasville too. But that day, there wasn't even a smile. Everyone was busily rushing around to do what they needed and that's it. Once again, I began to appreciate Millen and the people here. You should too.

I have to take a moment to thank a few people on behalf of the 4-H Club. Parents and community members Lisa Dailey, Yvonne Davis, Art Johnson, Grace McLamb, June Powell, and Cindy Rich played a large part in planning and orchestrating the "Lunch from the 4-H Bunch" held last week. Students took time over their holidays to give back to the community and serve the teachers and community members for a day. They went around town to the schools and local businesses selling homemade lunches and then delivered them the next day. Students who participated were: Jay Burton, Brandon Cherry, Callie Dailey, Mason Davis, Margaret Dickens, Krysten Fail, Justin Lanier, VeeVee Lovette, Kristin McLamb, Becca Rich, and Tyler Taylor. None of it could have been possible without the help of Yvonne Davis and Lisa Dailey. If you enjoyed your meal, please thank these people when you see them. I have already heard great things about how good the lunches were. But, it also would not have been a success without the help of the community members and teachers who bought the lunches. As always, I thank you for your continued support of the Jenkins County 4-H Club.

In other 4-H news, Jr/Sr DPA participants must have their portfolios 100 percent complete by this Friday. If they are not complete, you will NOT be able to attend. I have already extended the deadline and now it cannot be budged. Most of you who are not finished just need to bring in a few pictures. I would really hate to know you have done all of this work and then can't go because of a picture! If you are having trouble finding pictures, I will be glad to help you, but you must let me know. As soon as we can get these behind us, we will be getting on to the fun stuff. Starting next week we need to begin working on demonstrations!
