Datebook The annual Eggs and Issues legislative breakfast is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Krystal's Taste of Kountry. Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased from the Millen- Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce or at Krystal's. State Rep. Jon Burns and State Senator J.B. Powell will be in attendance. Lisa Ling to speak at GSU Lisa Ling, special correspondent for the "Oprah" show and contributor to the National Geographic channel and the Oxygen Network, will speak at Georgia Southern University (GSU) 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the Performing Arts Center. Ling's presentation is free and open to the public. The Performing Arts Center is located on the Georgia Southern campus at the corner of Chandler Road and Plant Drive, Statesboro. Ling's presentation, titled "Opening Minds and Hearts to the Issues Surrounding Us," is built around a career in television that began at the age of 16. She went on to become one of the youngest reporters for Channel One News, a network that appears in middle and high school classrooms across the country. Beginning in 1999, she shared her opinions with millions of Americans as a co-host on the daytime talk show "The View." In 2002, she became the first woman to host "Explorer" on the National Geographic channel, where she compiled stories ranging from the complex issues surrounding China's onechild policy to female suicide bombers. During her career, Ling has reported from more than 24 countries, including Iraq and Afghanistan. She also serves as a contributing editor for USA Weekend, and she co-authored the book "Mother, Daughter, Sister, Bride: Rituals of Womanhood." Free Legal Help Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Jenkins County to meet with senior citizens wanting free legal help, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Senior Citizens, 60 years of age or older who have a civil, non-criminal legal issue may be able to obtain help. A GLSP staff member will be in Jenkins County 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at the Jenkins County Senior Citizens Center, 998 College Ave. The GLSP office that serves Jenkins County is located at 209 Seventh St., Suite 400, Augusta.
