Quick Stop robber faces charges in Statesboro

Vandy Mack Daniels was convicted of the armed robbery at Quick Stop in Millen and faces similar charges in Statesboro.
An Atlanta man convicted of the March 6, 2006 armed robbery of the Quick Stop convenience store on Winthrope Avenue will go to trial in Statesboro Thursday for the March 7, 2006 armed robbery of Mighty Mike's Hot Stop, West Main Street.

Vandy Mack Daniels, 316 Peters Street, Atlanta, is charged with two counts of armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with the Statesboro incident.

He was recently convicted and sentenced in Jenkins County for armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime for the robbery of the Quick Stop. He received a life sentence with no parole for the armed robbery charge, 20 years for aggravated assault and five years for possession of a firearm.

During the Statesboro incident, a female employee of Mighty Mike's was shot in the head but survived the attack. Daniels is also accused of robbing a milk deliveryman behind the Statesboro Nursing Home later that day. The deliveryman was not harmed.

The website for the Georgia Department of Pardon and Paroles indicates that Daniels has a long history of crime. He was convicted in 1996 in Screven County for criminal attempted armed robbery. Prior to that, Daniels was convicted of armed robbery, 1984, Jenkins County; two aggravated assault charges, 1983, Jenkins County; second degree criminal damage to property, 1983, Jenkins County; and escape, 1984, Bulloch County.
