Garden council holds show The Millen Garden Council is sponsoring a Standard Flower Show, "A Step Back in Time in Jenkins County," on Saturday, March 1. The show will be housed in the Jenkins County Agriculture Center. The show's designs and exhibits will reflect historical features of the past in Millen and Jenkins County. Any amateur gardener and all garden club members are encouraged to enter the Horticulture Division of the show. All specimens must be fresh plant materials grown by the exhibitor. No oiling or spraying of fo- liage is permitted. Containers for cut specimens will be provided by the flower show. The Jenkins County Extension Office will be open for Designs, Horticulture and Special Exhibits 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, and 7:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 1. Under Special Exhibits, there will be a section for youth to enter. The exhibit must contain some fresh and/or dried material and must be the work of the exhibitor. No artificial plant material is permitted, and accessories may be used. Divisions are: Juniors, "The Circus Came to Town," Pre-K through age 7, consultant Cindy Rich, 982-5937; Intermediates, "The Fall Fair Rides were Exciting," ages 8 through 12, consultant Misty Gay, 982-3430; and Advanced, "Dairy Festival Activities were Terrific," ages 13 through 17, consultant Donna Boone, 982-3953. All exhibits must be removed from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The show will be open to the public from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. There is no charge for admission. |
