DFCS sponsors adoption meeting Families interested in learning about adoption are invited to attend the "Got Heart? Share it Through Adoption!" matching meeting on Saturday, Feb. 23. The event is sponsored by the Georgia Department of Human Resources Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) and takes place from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. at the Belair Conference Center, 4081 Belair Road in Augusta. County DFCS and private adoption agencies from around the state will have information about specific children who are in need of adoptive families, as well as general "how-to" adoption and foster care information. "Matching meetings are a great way for prospective adoptive families to learn about children who are in need of adoptive families from the case managers of those children," said Dan Almeter, regional adoption coordinator in the Augusta area. "This event also allows adoption staff the opportunity to meet and interact with interested families, which is a great help in the process of matching children with families," he added. There are approximately 2,200 children in Georgia who are in need of adoptive families. They are typically 8 and older, African American and/ or a member of a sibling group who will be placed together. Families interested in adopting older children or learning more about the program are encouraged to attend the matching meeting. For more information call tollfree, 1(877) 242-5774 or visit the Department of Human Resources website at www.dfcs.dhr.georgia.gov/ adoptions. |
