Marsha Madray's senior anatomy class is busy making preparations for their annual blood drive to be held 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the old Jenkins County High School gym. Shepeard Community Blood Center will be collecting the donations.
Students recently toured the blood center to learn what happens to the blood once it is collected
"Our goal for this drive is 150 good units of blood. Each year the seniors try to beat last year's record. Last year, Mrs. Madray's class received around 140 good units of blood. That will be difficult for this year's class but they are a determined group of seniors and they will work hard to achieve this goal," comments Mrs. Madray.
The students have to plan, coordinate and carry out this activity as part of their class requirement. They have designed T- shirts, made flyers for the community, made announcements in churches and will be contacting individuals by phone as a reminder about the drive.
"We ask that all of Jenkins County come out and support this drive as a way to give back to the community. Shepeard Community Blood Center has been collecting blood in Jenkins County for several years. We are so fortunate to have this agency to supply our needs and so many individuals in our community have already been blessed by the work of the blood center. The seniors challenge each community member to come out and donate or to contact someone who can," said Mrs. Madray.
