4-H News
By Anna Burgess County Extension Agent

Twenty-two 4-H'ers attended District Project Achievement at Rock Eagle 4-H Center.
Just a few short weeks ago, the much anticipated Jr/Sr DPA arrived! And Jenkins County was well represented at this event. We had 10 Juniors (7th & 8th grades) and 11 Seniors (9th - 12th grades) compete. Both groups of young people did an outstanding job.

In the juniors, 7 of the 10 placed in the top three. The first place winners and the projects they competed in are: Callie Dailey, Forestry Science and Wood Resources; Chassity Wilkerson, History; Kristin McLamb, Workforce Preparation; and Mason Davis, Better Breakfast.

In the senior division, the competition increases and a larger percentage of their total score is based on their portfolio (a booklet of every activity they've done in the past year). Over half of our seniors placed in the top five! Some of these students were competing against up to 24 others. They did an excellent job. Their scores prove that those who come in and put out a little extra effort will typically do better during the competition! We had two first place winners. They were: Krysten Fail- Arts and Crafts, and Justin Lanier- Sports. First place winners in the senior division will go on to compete at State Congress in July. State Congress is where the top placed individuals in each of the four districts come together to compete for state honors.

Top three senior individuals were: Justin Lanier- 1st place, Lavonte Lovette- 2nd place, and Krysten Fail- 1st place.
Participants in DPA and their projects were: Arnetria Hills- Crafts, Callie Dailey- Forestry Science and Wood Resources, Chassity Wilkerson- History, Jaquetta Grier- Performing Arts- Instrumental, Johnna Forehand- Photography, Jonquette Sanders- Performing Arts- Vocal, Kristin McLamb- Workforce Prep, Marshella Herrington- Communications, Mason Davis- Better Breakfast, Rashida Frison- Safety, Krysten Fail- Arts and Crafts, Angel Cunningham- Communications, T.J. Flakes- Target Sports, Tabitha Trent- Performing Arts- Vocal, Lavonte Lovette- Food Safety and Preservation, Emiliy English- Food Fare, Krista Gay- Human Development, Justin Lanier- Sports, Walter Ivy- Sports, Breezie Joiner- Human Development, and Margaret Dickens- Performing Arts- Vocal. If you see any of the students, please congratulate them on a job well done.
