Syl-View Happenings
By Betty Scarborough

Valentine's Day was very special as "Love Came Down on Pine Street." The valentine party was extra special as the Antioch Christian Church provided valentines for residents and staff members. They also provided candy. We appreciate the volunteers who helped to serve the cookies and punch, and those who provided the refreshments. It was a very special time.

We are happy to announce our "Volunteers of the Year," and they will be recognized at the Ms. Syl-View Pageant to be held 7 p.m. Thursday, March 20.

Amanda Long will receive the "Teen Volunteer of the Year" award for her volunteer service. She has been a volunteer since she was a little tyke. She has a special love for the residents. She assists with bingo in the summer months and helps prepare materials for the bulletin board. She brings "Buddy" for pet therapy. She helps serve refreshments, and she dances and sings at the square dance nights. She has enlisted other young people to become volunteers. Her father and mother, David and Tina Long, and her grandmothers, Marilyn Reddick and Ann Long, have all given volunteer service at Syl-View.

Bill Kellicker, also known as Mr. K, will be named the "Adult Volunteer of the Year." He has given thousands of hours of service since he became a volunteer in 1992. He sings, calls square dances and attends all special events, which includes as many as seven during the Christmas season. He provides the entertainment for each one. He makes CDs for residents and volunteers, and provides music for their birthday celebrations and the events all year. He has sponsored residents and provided that extra touch of love. He helps promote Syl-View activities wherever he goes, and he is a special volunteer in many ways.

The "Group Volunteers of the Year" is the Memorial Mission Group. They serve in so many ways and have logged in so many, many hours as they minister and serve. They have begun new programs as they formed a Syl-View Mission Group, which meets monthly. They assist with parties and sponsor "Soup Day." Members keep the birdfeeders filled and help with bingo and the flowerbeds. Others help with the printed material. They provide devotionals and serve as volunteer chaplain and photographer for the activities. Many help provide refreshments and help with activity needs on a regular basis. Members of the group provide music for worship services and for the special events. We are so grateful for their service.

For all of our volunteers, we give thanks, and we are so grateful for the extra touch of love volunteer service provides.
