Syl-View Happenings
By Betty Scarborough

Our "happenings" at Syl-View have been filled with special blessings this past week. We recently enjoyed a country music event with Glen Walden singing songs of Elvis. Many were dancing to the music of "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Rock Around the Clock Tonight." Vickie Bragg, our director of nurses, sang a number of songs made famous by women country artists.

Many of the group were singing along, and the mother of one of our residents who had traveled from Texas to visit her son, asked if she could sing. She took the mike and, in a voice loud and clear, sang "Crazy." This was enjoyable and inspirational, as she was a senior citizen. The group enjoyed French fries and Cokes, as this was "French Fry Friday."

Also recently, Mr. K, Doug and Nancy Schriner and the Screven Squares led the entertainment. This is a community-wide event with those of all ages taking part. Amanda Long, our Teen Volunteer of the Year, did the chicken dance and used props, to the delight of the group. Then Jordan Zeigler, State Teen Volunteer of the Year 2007, and Lexie Fitzner joined her and they did a line dance. Not to be outdone, a senior citizen joined in the fun as she danced to "Johnny Be Good" with some nifty moves. Joining the young people were Sally and Thomas Bashlor, along with adult volunteers. They served ice cream and cake to the group, as songs of inspiration were sung.

We appreciate all who take part on the fourth Monday night each month. This is a special "happening" which begins at 7 p.m. and lasts for one hour. There is country music, gospel music and lots of fun. We welcome anyone who would like to share their talent or would enjoy attending.

The days are filled with events. We are working on many special "happenings" in March, which includes St. Patrick's Day, Easter services of inspiration and the Ms. Syl- View Pageant scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, March 20. In working with the scrapbooks and nominations, we took down the valentine decorations in the lobby and we give thanks to all who helped make the valentine season a wonderful time of love.

We have put the March decorations in place with a St. Patrick's Day theme with lots of green and shamrocks on the side of the lobby. On the other side, we placed Easter emphasis. The focal point is the church, angels and the sign, "He is Risen." Also featured are bunny rabbits, baby chickens and a basket of Easter eggs for the children.

Visit us during the month of March and remember Grace Meeks in prayer, and visit those from the Jenkins County area soon.
