Eagles baseball is underway The Jenkins County High School varsity baseball team evened out a week of play with one win and one loss. On March 1, the Eagles faced off against Burke County in Waynesboro, losing 11-7. Leading hitters were Justin Lanier, 3-4, HR, 2RS and1 RS; Spencer Clark, 2-3, and Boyd Sasser 2-3, 1 double. Coach Wendell Clark commented, "Will Bragg and Ethan Conway pitched a great game but at times didn't get a lot of support. Only four of the 11 runs were earned." March 5, the Eagles traveled to Metter and came away with a 6-2 victory. Leading hitters were Caleb Chance, 2-3, 3 RBI's; Spencer Clark, 2-4, 2 RBI's; Justin Johnson, Houston Bowers and Dag Gay were all 1-2; and Ethan Conway and Zac Clark were 1- 3. "Trevor Weathersby pitched a great game. In four innings he had seven strikeouts, only two hits and no earned runs. Ethan Conway pitched for two great innings with three strikeouts, only one hit and only one earned run. Will Bragg came in relief in the bottom of the seventh and sat them down one, two, three. The defense came back strong after the floundering in the Burke County game. Just a great game with a lot of action for everyone," said Coach Clark. Junior Varsity The junior varsity Eagles won one and tied one in a week of play. On Feb. 29, the Eagles won 12-9 over Screven County on their home field. Leading hitters were Dag Gay and Aaron Comstock, 1-2; and Bobby Boone and Jay Bowers were 1-3. "A host of Eagles pitched the game with Will Brinson getting the win. On the JV level, we like to give a lot of pitchers a chance to gain experience in game situations," said Coach Clark. "A good start for the young War Eagles," he added. March 1, the Eagles tied Burke County 8-8 in a hard fought game. Leading hitters were Dag Gay 2-5 and Jonathan Mays and Bobby Boone were 1-3. "Jonathan Mays did a fine job of pitching for us. They played eight innings tied with a time limit," said Coach Clark.
