Clothes Giveaway

Willing Workers Mission announces a clothes giveaway will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at 343 MLK Ave., Millen. Ladies' and men's clothes, shoes, hats and caps will be available, as well as canned goods, toys, bedding and dishes.

Tour de Georgia coming through Millen

On Tuesday, April 22, the Tour de Georgia will come to Millen and Jenkins County, providing local citizens with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see most of the world's best professional cyclists.

This seven-day, 660-mile race is one of the two most prestigious cycling competitions in the United States, following the Tour of California in February.

Over 150 cyclists will leave Statesboro for Augusta, entering Jenkins County on Georgia Highway 17 around 11:45 a.m., and will reach Cotton Avenue around noon. From Millen, the group will travel SR 23 to Hiltonia Road, Hiltonia- Perkins Rd. and SR24 to Sardis.

Jenkins County Second Annual

Barbecue Cook-off

The Jenkins County Second Annual Barbecue Cook-off will be held on Jenkins County Recreation Department's Opening Day, Saturday, April 5. Proceeds from the cook-off will benefit the Patriotic Fireworks Celebration to be held in July.

The rules are as follows. All meat must be cooked the day of the cook-off. You may cook any type of pork, i.e. ribs, whole hog, hams, etc. No garnishes or sauces allowed on the meat; this includes onions, peppers, bacon and/or vegetables. Each team must cook on only one pit. The meat may be seasoned and/or marinated prior to cooking. Judging will begin promptly at 11 a.m. All samples must be on the judges' table at least five minutes prior to judging. First prize is $150; second prize is $100; and third prize is $50. There will be a special prize of $100 for the best sausage. Sausage can be any type of meat. Clean up your space. Plates will be sold.

To participate, turn in the following information to Jenkins County Farm Bureau or the Jenkins County Chamber of Commerce office: team name; team captain; telephone and cell phone numbers; and E-mail address.

JCRD offers karate classes

Jenkins County Recreation Department (JCRD) is now offering karate classes for ages 5 and older. Classes will begin Tuesday, March 25. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. The fee is $40 per month. Coach Terry Langston will be the instructor. Register at JCRD in advance or on the first night of class. Frog Wallow Fun Fest to be held in

Sardis

The Frog Wallow Fun Fest will be held 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, April 26. A parade will begin at 10 a.m. and entertainment will continue throughout the day. Activities will include a Frog Jumping Contest, barbecue dinner, bingo, cake walks, a car, truck, tractor and motorcycle show, craft vendors, fried frog legs, pony rides, food vendors, inflatables and much more.

Bookmobile

Due to the illness of the "Bookmobile Lady," the Screven- Jenkins Regional Library's Bookmobile will not be available for the remainder of the month.
