Deputies arrest two Burke County men for robbery

Norbert Tobias Jr. and Donald Lamont Heath, both of Sardis, have been arrested by the Jenkins County Sheriff's Department for the Feb. 23 burglary of a residence in the area of Dickey Road in Jenkins County.

A sheriff's department news release indicates that the owner was out-of-town at the time of the incident. Jenkins County Sheriff Tim Fields, working with this knowledge, suspected that someone known by the victim may have been involved and obtained a list of names from the victim for investigative purposes. The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrests of Tobias and Heath, who gave voluntary statements to law enforcement which included confessions to the crime of burglary.

Law enforcement also conducted a search of a Burke County business and residence which resulted in the recovery of some of the stolen property which was returned to the victim after being photographed for evidence.

The case remains under investigation by the sheriff's department and may produce additional arrests for the crimes of theft by taking and theft by receiving stolen property.
