Local resident seeks support for Bulloch County grandmother

April Holmes of Millen is seeking local support for a Bulloch County grandmother in need of a new home for herself and her family. After reading an article that appeared in The Statesboro Herald noting the family's circumstances, Holmes met with the family to offer her assistance.

Jessie Simpkins, a 66-yearold grandmother, provides care for her grandson, Kaimel, 22, who is permanently disabled due to an accident as a toddler, and for his mentally ill mother. The family has been approved for a new home by Habitat for Humanity.

"I enjoyed my visit that day and will never forget how that day changed my life. My prayers go out to the Simpkins family," said Holmes.

"In order for the Simpkins to get a new home, Mrs. Jessie must put in 300 hours of sweat and equity and also must help build other homes. She is unable to do this as she provides roundthe clock care for Kaimel," she explained.

Anyone who would like to volunteer to help build the Simpkins' new home, make a financial donation, volunteer as a RN, CNA or a LPN, should contact her at (912) 764-8078 or April Holmes at (912) 531- 2973 or e-mail Holmes at aholmesmail7@yahoo.com. All donations should be made to Jessie Simpkins and mailed to: Caring for K.K., P.O. Box 103, Rocky Ford, GA 30455.
