City accepts bid for gas line relocation

      During a called meeting Monday, March 17, the City of Millen accepted a bid for relocation of gas lines along U.S. Highway 25 to Classic City Mechanic in the amount of $175,490. The lines must be relocated due to the Savannah River Parkway construction project.

Correction
      Due to incorrect information furnished The Millen News, a Grand Jury indictment published in last week's edition against Terry Gordon Bolton was incorrect. Bolton was indicted for violation of the Controlled Substance Act, not possession of cocaine.

Eagles go 3-1 on diamond
      The Jenkins County High School varsity Eagles ended a week of play with a 3-1 record. The Eagles defeated Lincoln County 14-4.       The Jenkins County High School War Eagles finished second overall when they traveled to Tattnall County to compete in a 4-team track meet against the Tattnall County Warriors, Toombs County Bulldogs, and region rival Portal Panthers Tuesday, March 18.

Girls track team soars above competition at Tattnall meet
      The Jenkins County High School girls track team competed at Tattnall County March 18. The Lady Eagles came away with a big win in this meet. They defeated Tattnall County, Toombs County and Portal. There were some outstanding performances from the girls.

Applications sought for Kasey Lane Memorial Scholarship
      The Jenkins County Extension Leadership Committee is sponsor of the Kasey Lane Memorial Scholarship. Funding for the scholarship was derived from a $5 admittance charge at the recent Agriculture Banquet.
