Vera B. Carroll, 78, of Grovetown died March 12

Vera Louise Batchelor Burke Carroll, 78, of Grovetown died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Doctor's Hospital in Augusta.

Her funeral was held 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, in the chapel of Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home with the Rev. John Parker officiating. Burial was in the Big Horse Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Carroll was a native of Bulloch County. She was a homemaker and a member of Big Horse Creek Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bo Carroll; a son, James Lee Burke; and a brother, Larry Batchelor.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Helen Judy and Nathan Bennett of Sylvania, Elizabeth and Allen Oglesby Jr. of Augusta and Leona and Robert Hawthorne of Harlem; son, Gerald Burke of Grovetown; sisters, Jeanette Owens of Augusta and Ida Mae McKinney of Sylvania; brothers, Harry Batchelor of Midville and Cecil Batchelor of Augusta; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Josh Lee Lackey, Jerome Dent, Timothy Oglesby, John Grooms, Scott Burke and Allen Oglesby Jr.

Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home of Sylvania was in charge of all arrangements.
