Syl-View Happenings
By Betty Scarborough

We have been in a whirlwind of activities for weeks now, and thanks to all who have helped us to enjoy the ride.

The month had just begun when I was in Atlanta for the 36-hour Activity Course. As always, this is a great opportunity to share fellowship with so many fine people. There was one present who was aware of this column in The Millen News.

The weather was beautiful, and we returned to Syl-View safely. But, the virus bug had taken up residence at Syl- View, and visits were restricted. On Friday, I joined the sick gang, but it was a short-lived experience, and on Monday I was able to return to work and the nursing home was returning to normal, with the doors open once more.

We were so thrilled about the Georgia basketball team's success, and we had our Georgia cheerleaders going at full speed. The fight song rang out all day long.

We were thrilled as Rocky Ford Baptist Church led the worship service with songs of praise and Bible study.

Then, on Tuesday, we were able to have bingo, which is a favorite group event. The Rev. James Brown of McDonald Baptist Church, along with his talented children, blessed our lives with music and scripture. It was a part of our Holy Week services.

We have been excited and busy as we get the ladies ready for the Ms. Syl-View Pageant. There were dresses to be pressed and nails to be manicured, as they prepared for being in the Honor Court, or planned to be a contestant for Ms. Syl-View. It is such a special time for the facility. The reception will be hosted by the Middle Ground Baptist Church and the women of the McBride United Methodist Church. The pageant is sponsored by the Sylvania Junior Woman's Club. Our Volunteers of the Year will receive their plaques, and Mr. K will entertain.

The Rev. Ricky Allen will serve as our master of ceremonies. Toni R. Ellison serves as a sponsor for the event. We are also building a float for the Screven County Livestock Festival Parade. Ms. Syl-View 2008, whomever she may be, will ride the float, along with Mr. K, Adult Volunteer of the Year, and Amanda Long, Teen Volunteer of the Year. Volunteers are wonderful to help us get the float ready, and this is always a highlight of the year for Ms. Syl-View.

There are so many exciting happenings, and we invite you to come and visit us soon. To all of the church groups and classes who helped us celebrate Easter, we are grateful. It was a blessing for those who received Easter cards, and they were so appreciated.
