The Chatter Box
By Deborah Bennett

If you have visited out website lately, you may have noticed a new feature we are offering readers - late breaking news via e-mail. Just enter your e-mail address in the box at the top right-hand corner of the webpage and when something happens in our community - accidents, crime, general news, - you'll be among the first to know. This is a free service. The website is www.themillennews.com.

Also, an Internet subscription is only $15 annually. A combination print and Internet subscription is $33 for our incounty subscribers. The current edition of The Millen News is available on our website Wednesday mornings, but you cannot read the entire story unless you have a subscription.

All past issues of the newspaper are accessible in the Archives section without a subscription. So if you need a copy of a past article, just go to the edition in which it appeared in the Archives. If you don't know the date of publication, use the search engine to find it by typing in a few "key" words.

Isn't technology wonderful - when it works!

Responses to last week's Question of the Week - Would you support consolidation of our city and county governments?

"Consolidation of city and county government needs to be explored as an option if it would benefit the citizens of Millen and Jenkins County. I'm sure some services are duplicated and could be combined. Other city/county small towns have done this successfully, and those that had problems should be investigated."

"I think it is a good idea if it would provide some tax relief for our citizens. We can't keep raising taxes when people are unemployed and struggling to just get by."

"I would support consolidation of our city and county governments. There are not enough people in Jenkins County for two forms of government. The way the board of education is handling the taxpayers' money, we will have to consolidate with another county."
