It was a great day on a recent Saturday, as we took part in the Screven County Livestock Festival Parade. Volunteers and staff members helped us decorate our float in purple and pink petal paper, with light green festooning and purple fringe. These colors were used for the "spring" theme. The livestock sign and the gold boots and spurs carried out the livestock theme. Pots of silk flowers in spring hues were placed around the float and sides of the float.
Jordan Zeigler, Teen Volunteer of the Year, sat on a white chair as she greeted those along the parade route. Charity Bragg, Ms. Syl-View 2008, wore her sash and crown as she and her great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Shay Durrance, enjoyed the honor. Bill Kellicker, Syl-View Adult Volunteer of the Year, stood behind the queen and waved to the crowd. We were thrilled when we received the first place plaque, and we will be proud to display it on the walls at Syl-View. Thanks to Richard and Vicki Bragg for their assistance. When we returned to the nursing home at the close of the parade, residents and staff were able to see and enjoy the float.
We enjoyed a Men's Party on a recent Friday, with a Masters' golf theme. We have a number of men who played golf, and many enjoy the Masters' on the television. Mr. K entertained with music and there was fellowship and laughter as Jerry Hunter helped us serve sandwiches, chicken wings and homemade pound cake with bottled Cokes.
The women enjoyed a Tea Party recently, with displays of flowers and teapots to carry out the spring theme. The group enjoyed sandwiches, tarts filled with chicken salad, strawberries and grapes, along with their tea. Lee Baker provided the music and sang the songs they love.
Our volunteers continue to provide support for our bingo games, church services and parties. As I prepare the scrapbooks and volunteer nominations, I am so grateful for the total community involvement we are blessed to enjoy.
Soon it will be May and National Nursing Home Week. The theme is "Love is Ageless," and we remind you that somebody needs your love at Syl-View Health Care Center. We invite you to visit us soon.
