Those of you worried about Miss Barbara, our "Bookmobile Lady," will be glad to know that she's visited the library and was looking better than she has in quite a while! We still don't have an estimate on when we can get the bookmobile running, though, so keep on coming into your local library to sign up for library cards, check out books, music and movies, and otherwise enjoy the loads of benefits that we offer free to everyone!

If you'd like to be a member of the Friends of the Jenkins County Memorial Library, we've got a link to the application available for printing out at www.sjrls.org, our library home on the Net. For less than the cost of dinner, you can get the satisfaction of showing your support to your local library!

The Screven-Jenkins Regional Library Board will meet 4 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in the Screven County Library boardroom. Any interested members of the public are invited to attend.

This 2008 report presents findings from 2007 surveys "gathering data on the ways in which urban public libraries are involved with the transition of immigrants into American life. ... [The findings] show that urban public libraries are in the forefront of the effort to make their cities stronger by welcoming and integrating new residents from all over the world."
