'A Jazz Explosion'

The Augusta State University (ASU) Music Conservatory Program will present The Conservatory Jazz Band, directed by Dr. John Bradley Sr., in "A Jazz Explosion." The performance will be held 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre at ASU. The evening will include swing, soulful rock, salsa, bluesy swing, jazz rock, ballad, cha-cha and rocking soul music. The performance's director, Dr. Bradley, is the former band director of Burgess Landrum School.

Admission is free, and the public is invited.

Planning and Zoning Commission to meet

The Planning and Zoning Commission of the City of Millen will hold its regular meeting 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in the Council Chambers of the City of Millen Municipal Building.

The purpose of this meeting is to elect officers.

JCHS School Council to meet

The Jenkins County High School (JCHS) School Council will meet 3:30 p.m. Tuesday May 6, in the JCHS media center.

Concerned citizens to meet April 28

A meeting of Jenkins County citizens concerned about the local school system will be held 7 p.m. Monday, April 28, at the Jenkins County Agriculture Center. The public is invited to attend.

SCV Camp to hold Confederate

observance Sunday

Buckhead-Fort Lawton SCV Camp 2101 will host its third annual Confederate Heritage and History Month observance 4 p.m. Sunday, April 27, on the front lawn of the Jenkins County Courthouse. Georgia Division commander Charlie Lott will be the scheduled keynote speaker. In addition to re-enactors and others, the Jenkins County High School JROTC color guard will present the colors for the event. The public is cordially invited to attend.

OES Education Day

Spring Fountain Chapter #278 Order of the Eastern Star (OES) will hold "Education Day" 5 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Skull Creek Missionary Baptist Church #2.

The guest chapter will be Millen Chapter #473; Rachel French, WM, and Roderick Campbell, WP. The guest speaker for the day will be the Rev. Johnny Branch.

Those in charge include Annie Young, WM; Mary Boyd, AM; Charlie Jones, WP; and James Jackson, AP.

FSA Deadlines

Cotton producers should report intended cotton acreage for the Boll Weevil Eradication Program by Thursday, May 1. The $2.50/ acre assessment for actual planted acres is not due until Tuesday, July 15. Please report intended acres by the deadline to avoid late penalties.

Church Co-ed Softball

Jenkins County Recreation Department (JCRD) is currently holding registration for Church Co-ed Softball. Any church interested in having a team or teams should contact JCRD at (478) 982-2943 by Friday, May 2.

JCMS ABC to Meet

The Jenkins County Middle School Academic Boosters Club will hold their next meeting 7 p.m. Monday, May 5, at the Jenkins County Agriculture Center. The meeting will feature presentations by students that explain what they learned in each of their classes this year. Each grade level and content area will have student representatives making presentations. The public is invited to attend and see what the middle school students have accomplished this year.
