MPD nabs burglar

Morice Flowers was charged with four counts of burglary in connection with incidents that occurred April 16 in Millen.
Routine patrol by officers of the Millen Police Department (MPD) resulted in the arrest of Morice Flowers of Screven County on four counts of burglary.

While on patrol around 1:50 a.m. April 16, officers with the MPD observed suspicious activity at the Jenkins County Maintenance Shop when a blue Chevrolet Cobalt fled the entrance of the property. Officers gave pursuit and obtained the tag number of the vehicle. Upon returning to the property, officers discovered that the Jenkins County Board of Education tool shop, Jenkins County Storage Facility (old canning plant) and Jenkins County Maintenance Shop and oil shed had all been burglarized.

Following the issuance of a BOLO of the vehicle, Screven County Sheriff's Department deputies spotted the vehicle and gave chase. Sylvania Police Department also aided in the chase which took officers through Burke County and downtown Waynesboro on Hwy. 56.

Deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office laid a spike strip which ended the chase on Hwy. 56 near Brown Road in Richmond County. The offender, Flowers, fled on foot, and a Richmond County canine unit was brought in to aid in the foot pursuit which ended with the offender surrendering to law enforcement.

All the property taken during the burglaries was recovered from the vehicle. Most of the items were copper-related.

The suspect was transported to Screven County where he is currently being held. Flowers confessed to his involvement in the four burglaries in Millen and will be charged with all four counts.

Flowers was also interviewed by investigators from Screven County, the District Attorney's Office and agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for several unsolved copper related burglaries in Screven County.
