Volunteer fire department meets

The South Jenkins Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) held its first annual meeting Tuesday, March 11. Grilled hamburgers were served to all present.
Following the meal, President Danny Bennett called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone in attendance. Nick Johnson opened the meeting with an invocation. Next Chesley Johnson led the crowd in the pledge of allegiance to the American flag. Treasurer John Roy Clifton gave the financial report and status of outstanding debt. Horace Weathersby, vice president, gave a report on the grants the organization has received and is applying for. Training officer John Paul Hearn gave a report of the training requirements and presented the newly MOD1 certified firefighters their certificates.
Fire Chief Rayburn Johnson gave the service report and discussed the future of South Jenkins VFD. Chief Johnson then presented the 2007 Firefighter of the Year Award. This award is voted on by fellow firefighters for performance and dedication to attending fires and meetings. This year's winner was Mitchell Johnson.

Afterward, the fire department members held a question-andanswer session. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
