Lady Eagles finish third in region The Jenkins County High School Lady War Eagles track team competed in the Region 3- A Track Meet April 16 and April 18 at Southeast Bulloch High School. "It was a very impressive showing for the Lady Eagles," said Coach Chuck Sanders. As a team, the Lady Eagles finished in third place behind Claxton and Calvary Baptist. Coach Sanders commented, "I am very pleased in this young and very talented team. Overall, it was a great team effort and something that each girl can be proud of what they accomplished." Ayana Walker, the winner of the Female Region High Point Award, led the Lady Eagles in an outstanding region effort. Walker won the 100 Meter Dash in a time of 12.65. She also won the 300 Meter Low Hurdles in a time of 50.57. She was second in the Long Jump with a jump on 14'0" and was also the anchor leg for the second place 4 x100 meter relay team and the third place 4 x 400 meter relay team. Another outstanding performance was turned in by Zandra Lake. Lake won the 100 Meter Intermediate Hurdles in a time of 18.19. She finished third place in the Triple Jump with a jump of 30'4". She ran in the 200 Meter Dash and was also a member of the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relay teams. Deondra Lewis also had two great performances at the region meet. She won first place in Shot Put event with a throw of 29'10 ¾" and she finished fourth in the Discus event with a throw of 74'11'. Andrea Pittman took third place in the one mile and two mile races. Also competing at the region meet were; Keeley Sapp, Margaret Dickins, Teanna Taylor, Bridget Johnson, Krista Gay, Sharante Dixon, Shenita Mozee and Gina Patterson. The following girls will represent Jenkins County Lady War Eagles Track team at the state track meet on May 1 - 3 in Albany at Hugh Mills Stadium. Ayana Walker in the 100 Meter Dash, 300 Meter Low Hurdles, Long Jump and the 4 x 100 Meter Relay team. Zandra Lake in the 100 Meter Intermediate Hurdles and the 4 x 100 Meter Relay team. Margaret Dickens and Keeley Sapp will compete in the 4 x 100 Meter Relay event. Deondra Lewis will compete in the Shot Put event. Coach Sanders stated, "I am very proud of each of the girls going to state this year, and I hope we can bring home a few state titles for Jenkins County. If you are able to see any of these girls, please congratulate each of them and wish them good luck at state." |
