Man killed by sheriff's deputy
By Deborah Bennett Millen News Editor
A local man was shot and killed in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 26, by a Jenkins County Sheriff's Department deputy responding to a 9-1-1 call.

PATRICK NEELEY
Law enforcement declined to release the name of the victim or the deputy, stating that it would not be appropriate to do so since the investigation was ongoing. However, other sources have identified the victim as Patrick Neeley, 44, of Garfield. The deputy has been identified as Officer John Sharkey.

A sheriff's department spokesman reported that a deputy was dispatched to the 4966 Gamm Gay Road residence as a result of a 9-1-1 call from the residence. Upon arrival, the deputy was assaulted by a suspect with a pistol, and the deputy shot and killed the suspect.

The incident is under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). When that investigation is concluded, the district attorney's office will review the findings, as is the normal procedure.
