JCHS slides past ECI, Screven County

The Jenkins County High School varsity Eagles' base ball team had a 2-1 record last week.

The Eagles defeated rival ECI 19-14.

Leading hitters were Josh Lee 3-4,2 doubles, 1 triple, 3RS, 7 RBI's, 2 BB; Justin Lanier 4-6, 3 RBI's; Caleb Chance 2-4, 1double; Will Brinson 2-4, 2 RBI's; Houston Bowers 2-4, 1 Double; Spencer Clark 2-4 1 RBI; Will Bragg 1-1; Trevor Weathersby 1-2, 3 BB, 3 RS; Zac Clark 1-3, 2 BB, 2 RS; and Ethan Conway 1-3, 2BB.

"Ethan Conway got the win with a great effort of getting the job done. It was a great game for the fans if you like to see a lot of runs. Exciting and a lot of fun to be a part of a game like that," commented Coach Wendell Clark.

The Eagles defeated Screven County 7-6.

Leading hitters were Caleb Chance 2-2, 1 double, 1 RBI's,2BB; Dag Gay 2-3, 1BB, 3RS; Justin Lanier 1-2, A bomb of a homerun, 1BB; Houston Bowers 1-3, 1 double; and Ethan Conway 1-3, 1 RBI.

"Justin Lanier pitched two fine innings. Trevor Weathersby came in and got the win pitching a great game giving up only three hits, one run, four strikeouts and only one walk in five innings. When his breaking pitch is working, it makes his fastball even better. He was on his game that day," said Coach Clark.

The Eagles were defeated 8-7 by Claxton.

Leading hitters for the Eagles were Caleb Chance 2-4, 1 RBI's, 1BB, and 1RS; Will Bragg 2-4, 1RBI, 1RS; Justin Lanier 1-3, 1 BB; and Houston Bowers 1-3, 1 double, 2RBI's, 1RS.

"Will Bragg pitched his heart out with a great effort. It was one of the wildest finishes I've been involved in. It's tough. You win some like that and you lose some like that.

Great played game on both sides. Ninety-five percent of all the runs scored for both teams were earned," said Clark.

The Eagles B-team defeated ECI 8-7.

Leading hitters were Johnny Reyes 2-2, 1 double, 2RS, and Aaron Tanner 2-4 1 double.

"Jonathan Mays got the win by pitching a complete game. Great job of pitching with that nasty breaking pitch. The B-team had a very successful season this year. There was a great deal of improvement thought out the season. Coach Hodges has done a great job this year working with these young men," said Coach Clark
