Jenkins County Elementary School Celebrates third nine weeks Jenkins County Elementary School (JCES) held its third nine weeks assembly program Thursday, March 20. Dr. Judy Holton, principal, thanked the students, faculty and staff for their hard work and accomplishments. Students were commended for a job well done on the spring benchmark tests. Approximately 225 students were recognized for having perfect attendance for the third nine weeks. Dairy Queen of Millen provided each of those students a DQ coupon. Students meeting their Accelerated Reader Goals were recognized from each grade level. All grades earned 8,890 points for the third nine weeks. According to Sylvia Gay, media specialist, the yearly goal is 30,000, which will not be a problem for the students to meet since they have surpassed their goal for the first, second and third nine weeks. Accelerated Reader winners are, first grade: highest average, Jairius Smith, and highest points, Marley Knight; second grade: highest average, Macy Coker, and highest points, Jalen Coleman; third grade: highest average, Daniela Hernandez, and highest points, Tyriq Carrie; fourth grade: highest average, Lawson Holton, and highest points, Areion Ferguson; and fifth grade: highest average, Dona' Gay, and highest points, Colton Sharkey. JCES was honored to have Robert Little, children's book author and motivational speaker, present the program. He shared several of his books with the students. After the assembly, students were given the opportunity to purchase books signed by him. Several sets of his books have also been placed in the school media center for all the students to enjoy. Dr. Holton commended the students for a great nine weeks and encouraged them to continue working. |
