The Chatter Box
By Deborah Bennett

An e-mail buddy sent me an interesting "test" that I would like to share with you.

How many of the following can you recall - penny candy, 25 cents a gallon gasoline, Jiffy popcorn, Chatty Cathy dolls, Speedy Alka Seltzer, Old Yeller, Chef Boy-AR-dee, Timmy and Lassie, ding-dong-Avon calling, Brylcreem, 45 rpm spindles, Green Stamps, Metal ice cub trays with levers, cork pop guns, cap guns, drive-in movies, Marlin Perkins, car hops, Studebakers, washtub wringers, the Fuller Brush Man, Slinkies, hoola-hoops, Sky King, Tarzan, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Amos and Andy, Twister and Tinker Toys? If you can remember most of these, then you have lived!

I am happy to report that I have lived.

Friday is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Needless to say, our local law enforcement is deserving of a word of "thanks" from our citizens for all that they do to make our community a safe place to live.

"Thank you" to everyone involved in law enforcement.

I know that I wrote last week that I was not going to offer the "Question of the Week" again because participation was minimal. I have, however, since then been asked by several residents to continue the idea for several more weeks with hopes of its catching on.

Question of the Week, submitted by a local resident - Who will have the courage to call for a community meeting aimed at developing a plan of action for cleaning up Winthrope Avenue?

E-mail your anonymous responses or suggestions for a Question of the Week to themillennews@yahoo.com, mail to P. O. Box 909, Millen, GA 30442, fax to 478-982-5460 or leave in drop box on the door of our Cotton Avenue office. Responses should be limited to 40 words and should be received at our office by 10 a.m. Mondays.
