Savannah River Winds Returns to Waynesboro

The Savannah River Winds wind ensemble will be performing at Southern Bank Pavilion on Saturday, May 10 at 7 p.m. The program will be the final concert of the Waynesboro-Burke Concert Series and is being sponsored by Southern Bank. The music ensemble is under the direction of Richard Brasco, music educator, conductor and clinician. Mr. Brasco currently conducts the Augusta State University Conservatory Wind Symphony as well as the Savannah River Winds. The musical group is comprised of band directors, university professors, college students and musicians from various fields from Georgia and South Carolina, including Waynesboro resident George Jones who plays tuba with the ensemble. The group was featured at the Georgia Music Educators Convention as well as the South Carolina Music Educators Convention, and they perform annually at the District Ten Honors Band Festival. Musical selections for Saturday will range from Sousa marches, patriotic pieces, Broadway show stopper tunes and other light classical works, plus a humorous rendition of Leroy Anderson's The Typewriter. Concert goers will need to bring a lawn chair or blanket for the outside seating. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be performed at the Burke County Office Park. Tickets are required for the evening performance. For ticket information, call 706-437-0023. (Photo Contributed)
