Oxendine revises estimate to $125 million in damages

After visiting several counties that had recent storm damage, Insurance Commissioner John W. Oxendine revised his estimate to $125 million in insured losses.

"We're seeing significant damage, not only to homes and timber, but to large businesses, as well," Oxendine said. "And there are so many counties - and so many people - that were affected by those widespread storms."

The commissioner said he plans to visit other affected counties over the next several days.

Personnel from Oxendine's office traveled to some of the hardest hit areas to offer help in person. Anyone who needs assistance can also call his Consumer Services Division at (404) 656- 2070 or, outside the Metro area, 1(800) 656-2298, if they have questions about a claim, or if they are experiencing difficulty reaching their insurance company. Phone lines are open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
