Sing

A Country and Gospel Sing will be held at the Jenkins County Senior Citizens' Center Monday, June 2. The public is cordially invited.

Summer Lunch Program for children

The Jenkins County Board of Education (BOE) announces the Summer Food Service Program will be held at the Jenkins County Middle/High School cafeteria beginning Monday, June 2, and ending Friday, June 27.

This program provides nutritious lunches at no cost to all children 18 years of age and under. Lunches will be served Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

The BOE will provide transportation for children only. The bus will make five different stops within the city limits.

Attention: those who ordered gourmet cookie dough from members of the Jenkins County High School FCCLA may pick it up in the FACS room at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 29.

Carwash to benefit

local family

The South Jenkins District 6 Fire Department will hold a carwash to benefit an area family who lost everything in the recent storm. The event will be held 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at the fire station located at 4822 W. Old Savannah Road.

Cars will be washed and vacuumed for a donation of $10. Hotdogs and other refreshments will be available for a donation during lunchtime. All of the proceeds of the day will be donated to help this local family.

Everyone is invited.

Recreation Dept. announces Summer

Programs

The Jenkins County Recreation Dept. (JCRD) announces their upcoming summer programs. All of the programs will be held at the JCRD complex, and all participants must sign a medical release form. Registration is being held between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays at JCRD.

Fast Pitch Softball Camp will be held 9 a.m. until noon, Monday, June 2, through Wednesday, June 4. The program is for girls 10 through 12 years of age, and will include instructions on fielding, batting and running. The coaches are Bill Smith and Jennifer Brinson. The cost is $30, and the deadline for registration is today, Wednesday, May 28.

Pitching Camp will be held 10 a.m. until noon Monday, June 9, through Friday, June 13. The program is for girls 8 through 14 years of age, and will include instructions on fast pitch drills and different types of pitches. The instructors are Mary Johnson and Krislyn Walker. The cost is $50 and the deadline for registration is Wednesday, June 4. There will be a class limit.

Basketball Camp will be held 9 a.m. until noon Monday, June 16, through Friday, June 20. The program will include instructions on dribbling, shooting, passing and handling the ball, and working as a team. The instructor is Terry Langeston. The cost is $50, and the deadline for registration is Wednesday, June 11.

Karate classes are offered 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday, all year long. Boys and girls, 6 years of age and older, may participate. The instructor is Terry Langeston. The cost is $40 per month.

GED testing

The GED examination will be given at Swainsboro Technical College Monday, June 9, and Tuesday, June 10.

Required registration will be held at 9 a.m. in building number 8, and at 6 p.m. in building number one, room 1109, on Monday, June 2. Picture identification and social security card must be presented, and the $95 test fee is due at registration.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. If applicants are 18 or 19 years of age, an official withdrawal from the last school attended must also be presented at registration.

Free Legal Help

Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) staff will be in Jenkins County to meet with senior citizens wanting free legal help, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Senior Citizens, 60 years of age or older who have a civil, noncriminal legal issue may be able to obtain help.

A GLSP staff member will be in Jenkins County 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Monday, June 9, at the Jenkins County Senior Citizens Center, 998 College Ave.
