BOE meets, business as usual With school winding down for the 2007-2008 term, it was business as usual at the Monday, May 19, meeting of the Jenkins County Board of Education (BOE). Jenkins County School Superintendent Joan Blackwood reported a total enrollment in the local system of 1,602 students. This represented a loss of two students from the previous month. School principals reported that testing at the schools was proceeding as planned and outlined numerous activities taking place the last week of school. Actions taken by the BOE included the following: • The School Facilities Fee Schedule was presented to BOE members for consideration with action to be taken at the next meeting of the group; • The CTAE local plan was approved; • Renewal of the Jenkins County Extension Service personnel contract for a 4-H program assistant was approved; • The low bid for the purchase of a heat pump for the Jenkins County Elementary School media center was approved; • A quote from Southeastern Systems Technologies was approved; • Kay Green was reappointed to the Jenkins County Library Board; and • Kiddie Cheer Camp was approved as a fundraising activity. |
