Catherine Herrington Beal, 100, dies June 20

Mrs. Catherine Herrington Beal, 100, of Millen departed her earthly home and entered heaven Friday, June 20, 2008 at Bethany Nursing Center of Millen.

Her funeral was held Tuesday, June 24, at Morrison Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. James Jackson and Aaron Bush officiating. Burial was in the Millen Cemetery.

Mrs. Beal was born May 4, 1908 in Jenkins County, Georgia to Josh and Sidney Herrington. Her only sibling, a brother, died at an early age. A number of cousins are her only remaining living family.

Mrs. Beal married Frank Beal on Oct. 28, 1932. They were married until his death on Aug. 14, 1965. They lived in the Scarboro community and farmed for Eugene Bates and Marie Wilson Dwelle for 25 years. Mrs. Beal helped raise their three daughters, Ann, Jean and Sandra.

Upon moving to Millen in the late 1950s, Mrs. Beal worked in the household of Robert Gray and Elsie McCord Dwelle. She helped raise their two children, Bob and Beth.

Although Mrs. Beal never had children of her own, she considered the children she helped raise her own, and was most influential in all their lives. She was thought of as a member of the Dwelle family.

Mrs. Beal lived alone until the age of 94, at which time she became a resident of Bethany Nursing Center.

Mrs. Beal was a devoted Christian and a member of Morrison Grove Baptist Church. She was an active member in her church until health reasons prohibited her from attending. She was known to always have her Bible with her, and was always ready to witness for her Lord.

Kirkland Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
