Mrs. Johnnie Hendrix Brown of Garfield dies Mrs. Johnnie Hendrix Brown, 85, of Garfield, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Emanuel Medical Center after an extended illness. Her funeral was 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Ben Gay and Jerry Brown officiating. Burial was in the Elam Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Brown, a native of Jenkins County, was born Sept. 26, 1922 in Garfield. She grew up and lived her life in the Garfield area. She was a homemaker and a retired farm owner. Mrs. Brown was a dedicated member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church near Portal. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.E. (Baby) Brown, and a son, Bill Brown. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Charlotta Brown of Tampa, Fla., Tony and Angela Hicks of Garfield and Juanita (Pete) Brown of Portal; two daughters and son-in-law, Bernice and Frank McCullough and Betty Fagler. all of Swainsboro; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Veta H. Messer of Augusta and Margaret and Robert Robbins of Rome; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
