4-H'ers celebrate end of the year

4-H'ers went out with a bang at this year's awards program.

The theme: Hollywood Nights. Jenkins County 4-H, whose motto is, "To make the best better", hosted the show at the Jenkins County Ag Center April 24, at 6:30 p.m. The program was for 4-H'ers and their parents, but was open to the public for $3. Apparently the fee was no problem because around 200 people attended.

The three levels of 4-H'ers; cloverleafs, juniors and seniors all pitched in to help make the special night possible. Senior 4- H'ers worked for two months planning the big event.

A catered meal was just one of the special treats of the awards program. Special entertainment was also provided by its members. A performance in- spired by popular movie, High School Musical, started the show, and scenes from Forrest Gump added to the special finale. Some of the star performers from the show included T.J. Flakes, Mason Davis, Justin Lanier and Lavonte Lovette.

"I love seeing the kids feel successful and have fun at the same time," said Anna Amiss, the county extension agent for 4-H youth, as she explains why she likes letting the 4-H'ers take over the production of the event.

Among the many awards presented, Becca Rich was one 4- H'er who took home not only several special awards, but also broke the Jenkins County record, by receiving the master 4-H'er Award, which is an award that, according to Amiss, hasn't been seen by 4-H'ers in years.
