JCES recognized at Honors' Night

Jenkins County Elementary School (JCES) held its annual Honor's Night on Tuesday, May 20. Several awards were presented by the principal, Dr. Judy Holton, assistant principals Cynthia McNeely and Debbie Fountain, and faculty members. Awards were presented to those students having achieved academically, physically and socially. Awards presented included Citizenship, Music, Physical Education, Computer Lab, Scholarship Award, Principal's, Braves All Star Achievers, Accelerated Reader, Perfect Attendance, President's Education and Spelling Bee. Character Education awards were presented each nine weeks, compliments of Huddle House of Millen. In addition, Dairy Queen provided ice cream certificates to students having perfect attendance each nine-week grading period. Over 680 awards were presented. Students earning 125 points or more in Accelerated Reader (AR) were presented a T-shirt, in addition to their certificate.

Top classes earning the most Accelerated Reader points for the school year are: first grade, Frye's class, 2,500 points; second grade, I. Cobb's class, 2,012 points; third grade, Sherrod's class, 1,705 points; fourth grade, Dailey's class, 1,338 points; and fifth grade, J. Brinson's class, 1,490 points.

The top reader was recognized at each grade level. Students earning the most AR points for each grade are: first grade, Marley Knight, 213.4 points; second grade, Jalen Coleman, 250.3 points; third grade, Tyriq Carrie, 255.5 points; fourth grade, Lawson Holton, 274.5 points; and fifth grade, Colton Sharkey, 310.8 points.

Colton Sharkey was also presented a $50 savings bond from Queensborough National Bank and Trust for earning the most AR points in the school. JCES exceeded their school goal of 30,000 points in AR for the year.

The audience enjoyed several song selections presented by the fifth grade choir led by Lisa Wiggins. Certificates were custom made by Marie Taylor. Dr. Holton commended all students for a great job, and encouraged them to continue their excellent work.
