Primary election to be held July 15 Local voters will go to the polls Tuesday, July 15, to cast their ballots in the Democratic/ Republican Primary Election. On the local level, the race for Jenkins County Sheriff has created much interest. Incumbent Tim Fields, seeking a second term of office, is opposed by Robert Oglesby and Tony Taylor. All are running as Democrats. For Jenkins County Commissioner, District #4, incumbent Floyd Chance faces opposition from Rudine Becton and Ed Meadows on the Democratic ticket. The following incumbents are unopposed on the Demo- cratic ballot: Jenkins County Probate Judge, Wanda Burke; Jenkins County Tax Commissioner, Brenda Mathern; Jenkins County Clerk of Court, Elizabeth Landing; Jenkins County Coroner, Henry Young; Jenkins County Commissioner, District #1, Domingo Green; and Jenkins County Commissioner, District #3, Tommy Lane. They also face no opposition on the Republican ballot. Advance voting, by touch screen only, will continue in the Registrar's office at the Jenkins County Courthouse through Friday, July 11. Voters do not have to state a reason for not going to the polls on Election Day during this time period, but a photo I.D. is required. Forms of identification that will be accepted during advance voting and for voting at the polls on Election Day are Georgia driver's license, valid I.D. card by any state or U.S. with photo, valid U.S. passport, valid government employer photo I.D., valid U.S. military I.D. card with photo or valid tribal I.D. card with photo. All the regular polling places will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Election Day, and anyone who was registered to vote as of June 16 may vote in this election.
