Jim Jarvis, a 21-year education veteran, was recently named Jenkins County Elementary School principal by the Jenkins County Board of Education.
Jarvis comes to Jenkins County from the Emanuel County School system where he has served as principal of the Crossroads Alternative School, principal of Twin City Elementary School for six years and assistant principal for four years. Prior to serving in these positions, he was a special education gifted teacher with the school system.
His qualifications include: a 6-year specialist degree in Educational Leadership, Georgia Southern University; initial certification in Mental Retardation; master's degree and educational specialist degree in Learning Disabilities; additional certification in Educational Administration, Gifted endorsement and Teacher Support Specialist.
"I have always heard good things about this school from the previous administration for years, and I thought very highly of Dr. Holton. She leaves big shoes to fill. I am excited to be here and, hopefully, we can build on her foundation and move forward," commented Jarvis.
Jarvis is a native of West Virginia and has two adopted daughters from China, Jackie, 11, and Angel, 5.
A drop-in reception to welcome Mr. Jarvis to the community will be held 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at the Jenkins County Agriculture Center. The community is invited to come by during this time and extend a welcome to Mr. Jarvis and his family.
