State helps local law enforcement

On Thursday, July 3, Jenkins County Sheriff Tim Fields, center, received a check for $20,000 from Representative Jon Burns, left, and Senator J. B. Powell. The funds are earmarked for expenditures relating to drug investigations, the purchase of surveillance equipment and devices, drug detection equipment, and other enforcement related expenses. Sheriff Fields commented, "Representative Burns and Senator Powell were very instrumental in obtaining these funds to assist our local Sheriff's Office in the "War on Drugs and I greatly appreciate their efforts. This is money that will not have to come directly from the taxpayers of Jenkins County, as it will offset money that would normally be spent from our budget in these areas." (Photo contributed)
