The Chatter Box

You may have noticed an advertisement in last week's edition notifying print subscribers of the fact that they can now obtain a "free" Internet subscription with their print subscription. Extra features available with an Internet subscription include receiving "breaking news" briefs, weekly polls and availability of the news on Wednesday mornings.

All you need to do is call 706-554-2111, ask for Susie or Tres and they can sign you up.

Playing "catch up" is not much fun. After a week's vacation, I am still trying to get all the news that I missed July 4th week in the newspaper. So, if you have heard things "on the street" that have not yet been in the paper - I am still working on several articles. Hopefully, I will be "caught up" by next week. Don't let anyone tell you that nothing ever happens in Millen and Jenkins County. There is plenty going on!

I have been asked to remind our citizens that candidates for the Jenkins County Board of Education (BOE) election will appear on the ballot in the November General Election. Candidates for the BOE are Non-Partisan, meaning they are not running as Democrats or Republicans.

The online poll question last week was, "Do you approve of the new gun law that goes into effect next week (this week) which will allow Georgians with gun permits to bring their firearms into restaurants that serve alcohol, on board public transportation and in state parks?"

Responses were: Yes - 6; No - 14; and Undecided - 0.
